“Action springs not from thought, but from a readiness for responsibility.”
“We are not to simply bandage the wounds of victims beneath the wheels of injustice, we are to drive a spoke into the wheel itself.”
“We must learn to regard people less in the light of what they do or omit to do, and more in the light of what they suffer.”
The mission of The Dietrich Bonhoeffer Institute (TDBI) is to form, support, and encourage ethical and morally courageous leaders to address the social crises of their time.
finding concrete solutions to current ethical crises, conundrums, ambiguities, and dilemmas.
We imagine a day when rigorous ethical reflection is part of the normal process of religious, civic, and political engagement—and that such a process is, in part, informed by the life and thoughts of Dietrich Bonhoeffer. In keeping with Bonhoeffer’s philosophy, such a process requires concrete outcomes aimed at benefitting all parties. We settle for nothing less than a just society infused with collaboration and equity.
