Words are inadequate to express the anguish, excruciating pain, and unbearable loss after yesterday’s horrifying slaughter of 19 children and two adults at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. And this, only days after another hail of bullets took the lives of 10 mostly elderly shoppers in Buffalo, New York. Young men equipped with battle-grade weapons persist in perpetrating domestic terror, most recently in these two terrible acts. Of course, these mass shootings become the most sensational of what amount to more than 100 gun deaths in America every day.
The United States is the only peacetime country on earth to have this problem. We must address and solve this profound social, moral, and spiritual crisis.
The time is long past for wagging our heads in disbelief and folding our hands in prayer. THE TIME TO ACT IS NOW! It is imperative we remove instruments of mass murder and ban them from public access. All the while, we will continue to console the grieving, heal the wounded, treat the traumatized, and protect our most vulnerable – our children.
God, have mercy and bring us to a place of moral courage.
